James (Getty Images)Let's just get this out of the way so no one gets their hopes up: There is absolutely zero chance Robert Pattinson would ever take the lead role in Fifty Shades of Grey. The weirdness of Pattinson playing Christian Grey, a character whose thinly-veiled inspiration is so obviously Edward Cullen, would be too much. He can be as diplomatic as he likes, but he's not going anywhere near that movie.
Pattinson does, however, seem intent on toying with the very Fifty Shades fans whose faces would melt if he actually did play the part. Said fans may be excited to learn that, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Fifty Shades author E.L. James was reportedly invited over to Pattinson's house on Saturday for a birthday party for director Nicholas Jarecki.
As fun as it is to imagine Pattinson getting drunk with James — and making an inebriated 3am decision to star in the movie adaptation of her book — we're going to go ahead and assume no such shenanigans took place. Also, not to burst anyone's bubble, but Gosling is an almost equally long shot for the role.
While the movie's star is still TBD, James broke the news last week that Sam Taylor-Wood would be directing.
