Lana Del Rey announces short film, Tropico

Singer takes to Twitter to unveil poster for 30-minute film, in which she and actor Shaun Ross star

Lana Del Rey has released the first details of Tropico, a mysterious short film that is "coming to a city near you".

The Video Games singer revealed Tropico's poster on Saturday morning via Twitter, linking to a photograph of Del Rey holding what appears to be an albino snake. "TROPICO – a 30 minute film … Premier dates coming soon," she wrote.

The short is described as "a tale of redemption", but it appears to be a glorified music video for three songs from Del Rey's most recent EP: Bel Air, Body Electric and Gods and Monsters. The movie stars Del Rey and actor Shaun Ross, who also appeared in a previously released video for Bel Air; the Bel Air clip has now been removed from Del Rey's YouTube channel. Anthony Mandler directs, and photography is being provided by Del Rey's sister, Chuck Grant.

Although Del Rey's official debut, Born to Die, spent two weeks at No 1 in the UK, the singer's focus has shifted to the US in recent years, as well as Australia, Germany and Russia, where she performed earlier this month.
