This week draws to a solemn close following the news that one of the Internet's most illustrious cats, Colonel Meow, has passed away. MTV News reached out to comrades in arms Lil Bub, Grumpy Cat and Keyboard Cat for their thoughts on the great cat's transition to the spirit realm.
Lil Bub wrote in an email to News:
Dear Colonel,You are without question the most remarkable, impressive, and regal living creature I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Despite your intimidating facade, you were an incredibly kind and loving creature that brought millions of humans great joy. Your legacy will never be forgotten Colonel. See you in space my dear friend.
lub,
BUB
Grumpy Cat also weighed in:
Yesterday was one of the grumpiest days ever. Losing a friend in the Internet cat community is hard. Colonel Meow and I bonded last winter when we met at the Friskies holiday event.
We hung together on the couch backstage and scowled at everyone taking pictures. Colonel Meow had a special sort of evil in him that can never be replaced, and will never be forgotten.
Finally, Keyboard Cat said a few words:
Keyboard Cat and associates would like to offer our deepest sympathy for Colonel Meow and his family. His beautiful face, and fur, and spirit will live on in our hearts and on the internet forever.
The Colonel and his family are epic role models for all living things. Compassion, love, care, smiles (and frowns). You have truly made this a better place for people and cats. We love you.
Owner Ann Avery broke the news of Meow's passing Thursday with a photo of the cat and a brief message: "Colonel Meow passed away yesterday evening. I will post more about the details when I've had a few days to grieve. Thank you so much for your understanding, Minions. Your love and support has meant the world to us both. — Slave Beast"

According to Today, The Colonel was hospitalized in November due to heart issues. Before his passing, though, the 2-year-old kitty had garnered his share of Internet fame, as well as a Guinness World Record for Longest Fur on a Cat.
Bub, who spent some time with the record-setting cat, was kind enough to share a passel of photos of the two of them cavorting together with MTV News.
Feel free to share your own condolences in the comments below.
