Despite popular assumption, Steve Angello's Size Records' motto, "size matters," derives from a deeper meaning than sexual innuendo. The label's "Size TV" takes a look at the growing phenomenon of their EDM musicians' big sound.
In episode three of "Size TV," premiering on MTV.com Thursday (August 23), Steve Angello and his band of Size Records brothers takes fans on a journey from Size's past to present, with stops in Stockholm, L.A., NYC and Vegas along the way.
In an homage to the label, producing partners AN21 & Max Vangeli lead the clip with a nostalgic trip back to when Angello's "Sizeism" parties in Stockholm (this particular one taking place in the summer of '07) began developing a cult following. Fans will see a cameo by Swedish House Mafia member Axwell, and a party girl claiming that "Size parties are just too good to be kept in one country" — a remark that anyone who ventured to Electric Daisy Carnival New York or Tomorrowland Festival last year would know all too well.
Returning to present day, viewers are then taken to Angello's Stateside home in Los Angeles. The DJ explains (in Swedish) why Size Records is more about the sound than the size of the "equipment."
"When the whole rave culture started, people didn't really care about the DJ," Angello said. "It was more like, 'We got the biggest sound system in town.' It was like the walls of sound and people stood against the speakers and the DJ stood in a little corner behind that and DJ'd. People went there for the sound! And [the DJ] talked about 'Size Matters,' relating to the sound — the biggest was always best!"
As Steve begins his journey to EDC-NY, friends and labelmates salute Steve and his label and discuss upcoming material. Veteran DJ/ producer Junior Sanchez describes Size as the "first label he wanted to sign to" when making his transition back into "the scene" after a hiatus. Norman Doray dishes on "Celsius," his new Size collab with Eddie Thoneick (which he first previewed to MTV News). According to him, the music fits perfectly with the label because of its "big room sound." And finally fans will be tickled to see house music icon Eric Morillo sharing the reason we (including him) all fell in love with Steve Angello in the first place: "He's all about the vibe."
There's much to expect from the Size camp soon: AN21 & Max Vangeli People of the Night album is slated for release on August 31. Steve's Who's Who "Yeah" has taken another incarnation and will be released soon. And for New York fans who were lucky enough to buy tickets in time, Angello, RPM & Pacha are bringing the Size in the Park mini-fest to Central Park on September 22 and the shows will feature performances by Third Party, AN21 & Max Vangeli, and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano.
