A small but perfectly formed new cinema for the Midlands
Location
Attached to the Royal Derngate Theatreand, Errol Flynn Filmhouse is just a five minute walk from the town centre and hall.
The building
Errol Flynn Filmhouse is sparkling new. In fact, it was only opened two months ago. The Australian Flynn made his stage debut at the Royal Dernsgate Theatre in Northampton before making his fame in Hollywood, and in tribute to the actor, a bunch of cinema fans and supports banded together to create this beautiful cinema. It's small, with one screen and only 90 seats, but what it lack in size it makes up for in comfort – cosy reclining leather seats have a little table next to your arm rest to put your drinks. There is plenty of room for big bums and long legs.
The programme
If you are a fan of independent, foreign or non-mainstream movies then the Errol Flynn Filmhouse has just the right movies for you. It regularly shows classics such as Quadrophenia, recent independent movies like Aint Them Bodies Saints and The Kings of Summer, and they're also showing the National Theatre Encore. It does have seasons of showing mainstream movies but the prices are affordable.
The clientele
There are great offers for senior citizens, families and food free screenings so your experience isn't ruined by popcorn munchers. It truly is a stunning little gem in the heart of Northampton
Further Comments
The staff are an absolute pleasure and were friendly when I visited, waiting to give excellent service to everyone. The bar serves food that isn't too expensive and is great quality. There is passion for cinema from the owner and the programmers want you to see the best of the best.
