British film-maker said to be 'incredibly excited' about new project after commercial and critical success of Alien followup
Ridley Scott is to move ahead with plans for a sequel to Prometheus, his return to the Alien universe, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The science fiction blockbuster – also the veteran British film-maker's return, after more than three decades, to the genre that made his name – was warmly received by critics and pulled in more than $300m (£193m) across the globe from a budget of $130m. It was written in such a way as to leave room for another chapter. Stars Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are contracted to return.
When asked about the sequel, Twentieth Century Fox's president of production, Emma Watts, said: "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it."
Meanwhile, the Hollywood Reporter has predicted followups for The Amazing Spider-Man, Ted and American Pie: Reunion. It also suggested Snow White and the Huntsman might get a second film, despite the fallout from star Kristen Stewart's affair with director Rupert Sanders.
