Beyoncé proved that stars are just like us this weekend as she was out promoting her surprise album release. The singer might be dubbed Queen Bey, but that doesn't mean she doesn't know how to chill with her fans.
Just how real did Bey get in between dates on her Mrs. Carter Show tour? Take a look!
Shots, Shots, Shots
On Thursday night, Beyoncé, in a black and yellow dress and knee-high boots, hit up Dave & Buster's in the Big Apple to celebrate the release of her fifth album. Sure, some stars throw parties at hip nightclubs, but not Bey. Her night was filled with cake, shots and arcade games, as well as hanging out with her famous pals like Drake, who appears on the track "Mine."
Attention, Shoppers!
One day after chilling at the arcade franchise, she headed up to Tewksbury, Massachusetts, on Friday to surprise shoppers at a local Walmart. According to USA Today, she handed out 750 $50 gift cards to shoppers. She also greeted and chatted with fans as she walked around the store and bought a few items, including her own album.
Material Girl?
On Saturday night, the night before she wrapped up the North American leg of her tour in Brooklyn, she attended a screening for the videos off her self-titled album at the School of Visual Arts in New York. And while she may have been down to hang out, she looked like a true pop goddess in her tight-fitting LBD paired with matching knee-high boots. Inside, she opened up to guests about what inspired the release.
Bey, who has had several alter egos over the years, explained the origins of her latest, Yoncé. "We were in the studio, and Justin Timberlake started beating on buckets. So when you hear the beat, it's literally a bucket. ... And Dream just started, 'Yoncé on his mouth like liquor,' and I'm like, 'What does that mean?' But I love it, I think Beyoncé is Beyoncé, Mrs. Carter is Beyoncé, Sasha Fierce is Beyoncé," she told the room, according to Rap-Up. "And I'm finally at a place where I don't have to separate the two. It's all pieces of me, and just different elements of a personality of a woman, because we are complicated."
Of course, Bey surprised the entire world when she released her album completely in secret on December 13. She recalled what the moments were like leading up to the release. "I just got off the stage, I had a glass of wine and my cousin Angie was like, 'Are you alright?' because I was talking to myself and I was terrified," she said, according to ABC News. "I was so scared. I had already gone through all the horrible ways it could go in my mind. ... I saw it live on iTunes and I waited for the first comment. Then I woke up the next morning and ... [breaks into dance]."
So, what prompted her to do it? "I felt like I wanted to follow in the footsteps of Madonna and be a powerhouse and have my own empire," she said. "And [to] show other women when you get to this point in your career, you don't have to go sign with someone else and share your money and your success, you can do it yourself."
