Reports indicate it was a tight race on Wednesday, but the long weekend is far from over.

It's Middle Earth vs. Wall Street this Christmas — but which will come out the victor?
With Martin Scorsese's "Wolf of Wall Street," Ben Stiller's "Secret Life of Walter Mitty," Keanu Reeves' "47 Ronin" and Justin Bieber's "Believe" all opening on Christmas Day, holdover "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" could top them all over the course of the five-day weekend.
According to a report on Deadline Hollywood, Wednesday's box-office numbers are close, but it seems that Peter Jackson's second installment in his "Hobbit" trilogy earned between $9.2 and $9.3 million on December 25. "Wolf," Deadline reports, was close behind with $9.1 million.
Contradicting its earlier report, Variety's states that "Hobbit" pulled in $9.3 million while "Wolf" was close behind with $9.2. The Hollywood Reporter, meanwhile, reports that both films pulled in between $9 and $10 million, stating only that "Wolf" had a "slight edge" by late evening.
But with four days left to jockey for position, the holiday box office could be anyone's game. In third place is Ron Burgundy/Will Ferrell in Paramount's "Anchorman 2" with approximately $8 million.
As for the Biebs: his second concert doc logged about $1.2 million on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after the singer tweeted about his retirement, though the film is not being shown in quite as many theaters as "Wolf," "Hobbit" or "Mitty." (Stiller's daydreaming drama appears to have drummed up between $7.8 and $7.9 million.)
Expect the official long-weekend earnings to be revealed on Monday.
