With a full slate of newly released big screen offerings to choose from, the box office once again underperformed to begin the weekend of September 21-23, 2012.
Taking a slim lead on opening day, the Jennifer Lawrence starring horror/thriller "House At The End Of The Street" nudged atop the competition with a soft $4.6 million Friday pointing to projected three day total of $12.3 million.
Perched closely behind in second place is Jake Gyllenhaal's crime drama "End of Watch," as the David Ayer directed work earned itself $4.5 million on opening day with estimates pointing to inaugural weekend sales $13.5 million
illing out the top five at the box office in earmarked earnings are another theatrical newcomer in the Clint Eastwood, Justin Timberlake and Amy Adams helmed drama "Trouble with the Curve" ($13.2 million), followed by the Disney/Pixar re-release "Finding Nemo 3D" ($8.2 million) and a fifth place tie between the Pete Travis directed Sci-Fi caper "Dredd 3D" and the Milla Jovovich starring action franchise's "Resident Evil: Retribution" ($5.7 million).
