Director Michael Patrick King agrees with Sarah Jessica Parker that 'there's one story left'

Director and writer Michael Patrick King has told Entertainment Weekly that he largely agrees with Sara Jessica Parker that there might be "one last chapter to tell", as the actor told Instyle magazine in January.
"Sarah Jessica and I both know what that final chapter is," King said. "That doesn't mean it will or should be told, but I do think there's one story left. Whether it ever happens is a whole other situation. But there's four girls, and those girls are still in my mind. There are other stories to tell and characters that haven't even been written yet."
He added: "It's all really about the stories, and if you actually think you have something left to say that would make it exciting and worthwhile for the fans' time – that's really the question. Not whether you can get away with it, not whether anybody will buy it, not whether you can make money on it. It's really like, is there enough or more to say that would justify people risking seeing their favourite characters again?"
Sex and the City enjoyed a critically acclaimed six-year run on TV from 1998 to 2004. But its two big-screen outings in 2008 and 2010, both directed by King, were less well-received. The second instalment in particular was damned by especially negative reviews, including a one-star pan in the Guardian.
Until recently, Parker's co-stars appeared to be split on whether a third instalment would be a good idea, with Kristin Davis (Charlotte) and Kim Cattrall (Samantha) open to the possibility and Cynthia Nixon less keen to resurrect the role of Miranda. But earlier this week Nixon told reporters: "If Michael Patrick King is writing the sequel, and Sarah Jessica Parker is starring in it, sure!"
