When Lena Dunham was detained by the TSA at LAX airport for possession of a kitten-shaped keychain, the "Girls" star feared for her freedom, later comparing herself to Amanda Knox, the American student who was imprisoned for murder in Italy.
During an appearance on the "Late Show" Thursday, Dunham regaled Seth Meyers with a tale of her tussle with airport security. While going through the scanners, agents detected a weapon in her purse, a "self-defense keychain" in the shape of a cat gifted to her by a colleague.
"It's shaped like a cat — it goes over your knuckles," she told Meyers, "but I guess the two ears could gut somebody.... I understood sort of intellectually it could be used as a weapon, but really all I thought was like, 'What a cute little cat!' "

Not beguiled by the cat's cuteness, the TSA summoned the fuzz and Dunham, who was barred from making phone calls, was subject to a criminal background check.
"I was so scared — I was like, They're gonna Amanda Knox me," Dunham said, opining that she hoped someone going through security would recognize her from "Girls" and thus identify her as a law-abiding citizen.
"I'm gonna go away for a long time," she said. "The criminal justice system is broken in this country. They put away the good people and let the bad people go free."
Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito spent four years in Italian prison for the stabbing murder of Knox's roommate Meredith Kercher before being released in 2011. They were recently convicted again and are currently appealing the conviction, according to People.
For her alleged crimes, Knox is facing 28 and a half years in prison. Dunham, however, was cut an easier break: The TSA released her with a warning, confiscating the cat-shaped bauble.
