Lindsay Lohan treated for exhaustion

Actor makes light of being found unconscious in her hotel room while filming Liz & Dick, saying she has been working too hard

Lindsay Lohan has been treated for exhaustion and dehydration after she was found unconscious in her hotel room on Friday night.

Lohan was treated by paramedics at the Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey, California, where she had been filming her role as Elizabeth Taylor in the TV movie Liz & Dick. A spokesman said she had been working "a gruelling schedule the past few days", but was resting and hoped to return to the set imminently.

"She was on set last night at 7pm and worked through the night until 8am this morning," said Lohan's publicist Steve Honig. "She took a nap before shooting her final scene. Producers were concerned when she did not come out of her room and called paramedics as a precaution. Lindsay was examined and is fine, but did suffer some exhaustion and dehydration."

The actor later made light of the incident in a series of tweets.

"Note to self.. After working 85hours in 4days, and being up all night shooting, be very aware that you might pass out from exhaustion & 7 paramedics MIGHT show up @ your door.... Hopefully they're cute. Otherwise it would be a real let down," she wrote, adding: "back on set."

Liz & Dick, an account of Taylor's tempestuous relationship with Richard Burton, is being filmed for the US Lifetime channel on the top floor of the Ritz-Carlton and is Lohan's first lead role since 2009.

The troubled actor was forced to drop out of her last high-profile role, as porn star Linda Lovelace in the biopic Inferno, after breaking probation conditions by missing a mandatory progress hearing relating to a 2007 DUI conviction. She had, instead, attended a promotional event for the film at the 2010 Cannes film festival.

Lohan, who has struggled with substance abuse and served jail time for DUI and shoplifting incidents, was in the news last week when she was taken to hospital after smashing her Porsche into an 18-wheel lorry on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica. She escaped without serious injury. The actor has completed her probation relating to two 2007 DUI cases, but remains on unsupervised probation for a shoplifting incident until May 2014.

After dropping out of the Linda Lovelace biopic, Lohan is set to feature alongside a real life adult movie star, James Deen, in drama The Canyons, the screenplay for which is being written by Bret Easton Ellis. Paul Schrader, the director of American Gigolo and Mishima, and writer of Taxi Driver, will take charge and production is due to start next week.
