London 2012: aerial pictures shed light on Olympic opening ceremony

New photos show representation of River Thames spanning Olympic Stadium

A bird's eye view over the Olympic Stadium has revealed details of the London 2012 opening ceremony, with a representation the river Thames dominating the centre of the arena.

Oscar winner Danny Boyle, the artistic director for the £27m curtain-raiser on 27 July, said the ceremony would include a rural meadow scene complete with farm animals.

But the latest aerial photos seem to confirm that the opening "green and pleasant" tableau will give way to a more urban environment of dark satanic mills and protests.
