Warner Bros., the studio behind "The Dark Knight Rises," is planning to make a "substantial" donation to a group that will be supporting victims of Friday's deadly shooting rampage
 in Aurora, Colorado.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the studio has been in talks with Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper's office to contribute to the givingfirst.org charity. The nonprofit organization was created to support the victims and families of the shooting that took the lives of 12 and injured 58 during a shooting spree by suspect James Holmes
.

The studio did not publicly announce the amount of the donation, but sources told the site that it is "substantial." The studio's CEO, Barry Meyer, was also slated to send out a company-wide email on Monday night informing employees of the donation and telling them how they can personally donate to the victim's fund.

"Dark Knight Rises" star Joseph Gordon-Levitt tweeted a message of sympathy to the victims in the case on Monday, joining his co-stars and director Christopher Nolan
in expressing shock at the shootings and compassion for the innocent dead and injured. "My most sincere sympathies go out to the families of the victims in Aurora," he wrote.

Stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway
and Gary Oldman had previously released statements about the incident. Suspect Holmes made his first court appearance
on Monday, giving the world the first glimpse of the young man accused of a heinous crime that stunned a nation.

Potentially facing a number of first-degree murder charges as well as weapons counts, the 24-year-old former neuroscience PhD candidate with the shocking red/orange dye job looked dazed, listless and unfocused as he sat mutely while a judge ordered him held without bond until a July 30 formal arraignment.
