"The Hunger Games" Stars Open Up to Total Film

We're under a month away from it's theatrical release, and the stars of "The Hunger Games" cover the April 2012 issue of Total Film

With a range of still images from the book-based movie included, the in-depth article features comments from Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Woody Harrelson, Josh Hutcherson and Donald Sutherland.

A rundown of highlights from the "Hunger Games" cast's interview are as follows. For more, be sure to check out Total Film!

Jennifer Lawrence on being talked into taking the role by her mother:
"I always got asked why I did Indies, not studio films, and I said it was about the script, it's not about how big it is, and she was like, 'This is a script you love, a character you love, and you're about to turn it down because of the size of it? You're a hypocrite!'"

Elizabeth Banks on whether she was involved in designing Effie's costumes:
"Of course! Everything you see on Effie is purposeful, nothing is whimsical. As an ambassador for the Capitol I wanted to make it clear Effie is oppressed, so all her clothes are constricting, corseted, uncomfortable. And I wear crazy shoes that you would never be able to spend the 12 hour day in – I wanted her to be tortured by her clothes"

Donald Sutherland on how he first heard about the hunger games:
"I wasn't actually offered a role. The script was given to me, to see what I thought of it, and I wrote an extensive note to my representative, as I thought it was a beautiful script, and it had the possibility to be the most influential film made in this country for many years."

Lenny Kravitz on how he was pitched the role by Gary Ross:
"Well, he said he liked the sensitivity with which I played Nurse John, and that Cinna and Nurse John have similar characteristics of warmth and quietness and so he thought that I would bring out the character well. All I had to do was read it and, y'know, make the decision."

Woody Harrelson on what impressed him most about the shoot:
"Every aspect of the production: wardrobe, hair, makeup. When you see what form it takes, it's amazing, unique and totally original. Even a glass is not just a normal glass, they don't do anything normal. When you get to the Capitol, everything is different – even ice! It's pretty cool."
