Lamar Odom Met With NBA Drug Counselors Before DUI Arrest: Report
Mark Ronson Almost Missed A Career-Changing Phone Call From Paul McCartney
Ronson lent his producing talents to tracks 'New' and 'Alligator' off of McCartney's upcoming record.

Mark Ronson, who has produced for musicians like Adele, Lil Wayne, Nas, Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse, lent his producing talents to Paul McCartney's new, very Beatles-esque single "New," which dropped late Wednesday ahead of the October 15 album by the same name. In a funny twist of fate, however, one missed phone call could have rewritten history.
Ronson told MTV News that he first started working with McCartney after DJing his wedding to Nancy Shevell two years ago. "He called me to ask me to do it and it was the same weekend of my own wedding and I completely spaced, because I kind of had other sh-- like my own wedding on my mind," Ronson said. "Then on my honeymoon 10 days later, I was like, 'F---! I forgot to call Paul McCartney back, which just sounds like a pretty ridiculous sentence."
Ronson called McCartney back to accept the gig and later went on to DJ another event for the former Beatle in New York. "I think I may subliminally planted an idea in his head that I would love to work together some time and I think he was into the idea, too," Ronson said of the budding relationship. "Then a few months later I got a call and he was like, 'Hey, do you want to come out to the studio?'"
From there, the two started messing around with ideas, including a track called "Secret Life of a Party Girl," which does not appear on McCartney's upcoming album, New. When Ronson heard the track "New," he was sold. "It was just such an instant classic," he said. "I said, 'I would love to work on that song with you,' and that's how it started....It was a masterclass in learning how to put together a f---ing incredible song — just watching his mind work."
Ronson was most impressed, he said, by how the 71-year-old musician has remained prolific over the years. McCartney released Kisses on the Bottom in 2012, which mostly featured covers, and an album of original works, Memory Almost Full, in 2007.
"I was definitely surprised by how inspired he still is," Ronson said. "It would be so easy for someone at this point in his career to go in, mess around, not necessarily phone it in -- but it's so inspiring how brimming with ideas he is the entire time he's in the studio."
Ronson also worked on a track called "Alligator" for New, which he calls "brooding" and "quite tough."
The producer is currently working on his own music for a followup to 2010's Record Collection. "The past year and a half between the Paul stuff and working with Bruno Mars on his album I just realized that I need to buckle down in the studio and make my own album," he said. "Every time I go out and DJ and I have to play my own sh--, it's like three years old. I hate that."

Hammer of the Gods – review
Viking brothers do battle with Saxons in this brutal, pointless 9th-century action adventure
Set in 871AD, in these isles, this idiotic bone cruncher centres on Steinar (Charlie Bewley), warrior son of King Bagsecg (James Cosmo), leader of the Viking invaders. He's dispatched on a mission-ineffable by his dying father to find Hakan, Steinar's long-absent elder brother, to lead a heathen army against the Anglo-Saxons. His journey across the Brecon Beacons is a bloody trek into a medieval heart of darkness, as confused and clunking as it is pointless. A nasty, brutal and relatively short entertainment, aimed at middle-of-the-woad Conanists.

The Canyons – Venice 2013: first look review
With a production as troubled as its star Lindsay Lohan, this un-erotic thriller is best viewed as a ghastly tableaux of the damned
Cinema bows out with both a whimper and a bang in The Canyons, a punch-drunk and jaundiced piece of Hollywood noir that opens with a montage of ruined movie theatres and then proceeds to an orgy up in Beverly Hills. Director Paul Schrader is our guide through the rubble, working from an overwrought script from Bret Easton Ellis. The imperilled cast comes headed by wayward Lindsay Lohan and the smirking, blandly handsome James Deen, a veteran of the porn industry. All of them are going down, stuck together, and their dying fall commands a certain queasy fascination.
Schrader's picture flops into an out-of-competition slot at the Venice film festival off the back of a spectacularly troubled production history that has been partly blamed on the presence of Lohan, an actor still struggling to regain her equilibrium following spells in rehab and under house arrest. And yet, curiously, these offscreen torments have not so much destroyed the film as defined it. The Canyons gives us an erotic thriller in which the thrills have lost their force, the sex has lost its zest and the actual business of making movies is little more than an annoying distraction. The whole thing works best when viewed as a ghastly, frozen tableaux of the damned. Judged as drama, The Canyons sucks.
Lohan, her eyes darting, her hoop earrings twitching, plays Tara, the trophy girlfriend of amoral Christian (Deen), who lives in a soulless pleasure dome in the Hollywood Hills. It transpires that Tara is having an affair with the lunkish Ryan (Nolan Gerard Funk), but that's OK because Christian is having an affair with his yoga teacher Cynthia (Tenille Houston). And Cynthia, we later discover, once had an affair with Ryan and may want to again. It's hard to keep track of just who's betraying who; tough to spot where one transgression ends and the other begins. These four protagonists inhabit an ass-backwards world of ongoing fakery, all strung out beneath gunmetal skies. One has the sense that they cry to make themselves cry and use sex as a device to jump-start flaccid libidos. In the midst of a hellish orgy, Tara abruptly looks into the face of the man who's astride her and murmurs "Hello", as if she's noticing him for the first time.
Would it be redundant to mention that the acting is awful? These people are unconvincing as people, and that may well be the point. Ellis's dialogue is so stilted and overwritten that it reduces the performers to gabbling wrecks, rushing headlong at their lines with an air of wild-eyed desperation. All of which is of a piece, but that doesn't make it good. Near the end of the film, sleazy Christian takes a drive into town for a meeting with the director Gus Van Sant, who apparently moonlights as a sensitive shrink. The two men sit inside a quiet, book-lined study as Christian outlines his various issues. "We're all actors, aren't we?" he asks the director. But Van Sant won't be drawn. He responds with a frown and his silence speaks volumes.

Daniel Radcliffe Is 'Ready To Go To The Next Level,' Says 'Tokyo Vice' Director
Anthony Mandler opens up at VMA red carpet about working with 'Harry Potter' star.

Anthony Mandler's worked with the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna and Jay Z during his 13 years as a music video director, and now he'll add an erstwhile boy wizard to his star-powered roster.
The auteur's next film project is the thriller "Tokyo Vice," which starring former "Harry Potter" lead Daniel Radcliffe. When MTV News caught up with Mandler at Sunday's Video Music Awards — he directed VMA-nominated videos "Carry On" (Fun.), "I Knew You Were Trouble" (Taylor Swift) and "Come & Get It" (Selena Gomez) — the helmer explained more about the project and Radcliffe's role.
"It's called 'Tokyo Vice.' It's written by Jake Adelstein," Mandler said. "It takes place in Tokyo. It's about an American that becomes a reporter at the Tokyo Times, and he breaks an incredible story about the Yakuza and about the reality of what it means to do that in regards to his safety and his life and whether it's actually worth it to bring the world that truth. It's very much like a '70s kind of thriller. So far it's been incredible. We're writing the script now. We're looking to start next year."
Radcliffe's been tackling increasingly mature roles in films like "Kill Your Darlings," "Horns" and "The F Word" since graduating from Hogwarts in 2011, and Mandler said "Tokyo Vice" is the next logical step in this progression.
"I think he's absolutely ready to go to the next level," Mandler said. "We sat down a couple of times and had some incredible meetings. His take on the work and on the book is right in line with mine, and I think it's all about the next phase after Mr. Potter."

A day at the beach for Beyoncé is not like a day at the beach for the rest of us. When Mrs. Carter rolls up at Coney Island in Brooklyn, she rides the Cyclone while wearing a Biggie hat and a bunch of gold chains. And sure she gets the front car every time, but that's because she's mixing business with pleasure to film a new video.
According to reports, the singer spent the day at the seaside amusement part on Thursday enjoying some down time with stylist Ty Hunter and some of her dancers, while shooting footage for a video.
Check out photos of Bey riding Coney Island's Cyclone coaster!
Wearing jeans, a white tank with a black bra underneath and the B.I.G. snapback, Bey spent nearly an hour on the ride with a couple dozen extras, according to E! News. Several hundred people gathered to watch the shoot and get a glimpse of the star as she laughed and threw her hands in the air on the 86-year-old coaster. The New York Daily News reported that famed fashion photographer Terry Richardson was directing the clip.
A spokesperson for Beyoncé could not be reached for comment at press time about the shoot or where the footage will be used.
This isn't the first time this month that Queen B has gotten her amusement park on. Two weeks ago while on a break from playing at the V Festival Beyoncé hit the coasters in England.
Bey is headed to Philadelphia for the holiday weekend to perform at hubby Jay Z's second annual Made in America festival , which will also feature sets from Nine Inch Nails, 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar and Phoenix.

When hip-hop fans first heard Kendrick Lamar's electric verse on Big Sean's "Control," there was a collective gasp. Eager rappers hit the studio in response, but not Drake.
"[I] went about my day, went and got dinner and kept it moving," Drizzy told Billboard magazine in their latest issue of the verse in which K-Dot took Drake and a number of his other rap friends to task, stating that he will figuratively murder them with raps.
"I'm usually homeboys with the same n----s I'm rhymin with/ But this is hip-hop and them n----s should know what time it is/ And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale/ Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake/ Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller/ I got love for you all but I'm tryna murder you n----s/ Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you n----s/ They don't wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you n---as," the Black Hippy MC rapped to the amazement of the rap world at large.
A number of MCs issued responses of different kinds, through the media, Twitter and through song — though none of the MC's named in the verse have released any rebuttal songs yet.
"I didn't really have anything to say about it," Drake said. "It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That's all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick's not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic."
On Thursday, Lamar spoke to Hot 97 in New York explained his reasoning behind the fiery verse. "At the end of the day, when you listen to the line, these are cats that I feel can inspire the game and they aspire to be the best just like I feel. I aspire to be the best," he said. "If they're competitive and they respect the culture of hip-hop, I don't feel like it should be any type of ill feeling they should have towards it."

Philip Ridley's fairytale for the disenfranchised is a gothic masterpiece with a dreamlike quality and a nightmarish narrative

Why we love … the confident evil of Tony Montana … the first five minutes of Dead or Alive … the supporting cast of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
There are many reasons to love Philip Ridley's stunningly beautiful film The Reflecting Skin, a gothic masterpiece that is often strangely overlooked.
Seen through the eyes of 10-year-old Seth Dove (Jeremy Cooper), the film is populated by the damaged denizens of a small town in rural Idaho. As it opens, Seth's family is on the brink of collapse, his mother slipping into religious insanity, his father deeply depressed by some dark secret. His elder brother, Cameron, played by a young Viggo Mortensen, has returned from military service traumatised and suffering from a mysterious physical affliction. Cameron becomes romantically involved with Dolphin Blue (Lindsay Duncan), a local widow whom Seth is convinced is a vampire, intent on sucking the lifeblood from his brother. "The nightmare of childhood," as Dolphin remarks to Seth. "Innocence can be Hell".
Like a Flannery O'Connor story adapted by David Lynch, with Terrence Malick shooting second unit, the film has a dreamlike quality that softens the nightmarish narrative. Indeed, Ridley places the story a definite second to the visuals, creating painterly images that at once seduce and unnerve. A former art student, the East End-based director has said in interviews that the film was inspired by a series of his own paintings of an imagined, mythical American landscape. The black Cadillac that cruises into the town like a shadow passing across the sun, its occupants enticing away Seth's young friends one by one, first appeared in the background of these paintings.
Reading on a mobile? Click here to view
Which brings us to Lindsay Duncan's frog-splattered visage. Decidedly not what Gloria Swanson had in mind when she famously informed Mr DeMille she was ready for her closeup, the image is nevertheless a very beautiful one. Seth and friends have rigged a frog to explode, as cheeky Idahoan boys are wont to do, and Dolphin is their unsuspecting victim. Ridley frames Dolphin's face against the blue sky, the paleness of her skin accentuated by the black of her headscarf and sunglasses, her delicate, crystalline beauty defiled by a generous, red splattering of blood.
Beneath all this gothic texturing, this terrible beauty, what gives the film its power is its emotional truthfulness. In all families, to a greater or lesser degree, there sleeps some repressed secret, and by the end of the film Seth has become aware of the truth about his own. (Spoiler alert!) His brother is suffering radiation sickness; Dolphin is just a lonely widow, heartbroken and obsessed with the memory of her husband; and the burden borne by his suicidal father is repressed homosexuality.
The family is Ridley's most recurring theme, running through his plays and his novels for children. These books are set in poor urban areas made fantastical by Ridley's prose, and filled with wonderfully eccentric characters in dysfunctional families, the young protagonists dealing with "the nightmare of childhood" bravely and imaginatively. His fiction is a gift to children born into difficult circumstances – fairytales for the disenfranchised.
I once saw Philip Ridley at a train station, dressed in black and sporting a pork-pie hat. I wanted very much to thank him for the pleasure his books had given my son, but by the time I had plucked up the courage to approach him and begun crossing the footbridge to the platform opposite, a train had whisked him away. So, in the hope that he may glance up from his work and see this: thank you, sir.

James Spader joins Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron
Actor to play villainous robot in Joss Whedon's superhero-studded followup to 2012's $1.5bn box-office smash

• Tom Hiddleston: 'Superhero movies teach humanity'

James Spader has been cast as the mechanical villain of the Avengers sequel Age of Ultron, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Joss Whedon's followup to last year's $1.5bn Avengers spectacle will reunite Marvel comics superheroes Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk, and install newcomers Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Spader will voice the titular robot.
The character of Ultron debuted in the 1968 comic books and was later revealed as the accidental creation of Henry Pym, aka Ant-Man. Whedon and Marvel Studios said the new iteration will be more closely related to the current members of the big-screen Avengers, an ensemble that does not include Pym. The latter will get his own solo outing in a film by Britain's Edgar Wright that will be released in 2015 – the same year the Avengers sequel will hit cinemas.
In other comic-book movie news, Ben Affleck's casting as the caped crusader in the forthcoming sequel to this year's Superman reboot, Man of Steel, has inspired Justin Timberlake to propose himself for a role in future movies. "I'll tell you the villain I want to play more than anything – because I grew up loving Batman, funnily enough – is the Riddler," The Social Network star said in a US radio interview. "The Riddler was like a sociopath. He was proper crazy. So if I'm gonna play crazy, I'm wanna play proper crazy."
The Riddler was previously played by Jim Carrey in 1995's Batman Forever, but was not featured in Christopher Nolan's recent Dark Knight trilogy. Warner Bros studio has not revealed plans for standalone Batman movies that might feature the character, but reports suggest Affleck has signed on for multiple films.
