Gladiator star, soon to be seen as Superman's father in Man of Steel, is linked to Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic
Director Darren Aronofsky has some big fish to fry in his new film, based on the story of Noah. And he's said to be eager to reel in Russell Crowe to take the title role, according to Deadline.
The casting would make sense as John Logan, who co-wrote Gladiator, rescripted a draft screenplay originally penned by Aronofsky and Ari Handel.
Crowe will next be seen in Bryan Singer's Superman reboot as Jor-El, and is currently in pre-production on Tom Hooper's Les Miserables. At 47, he may require some prosthetics to tackle Noah, who knocked up his ark in his 600th year, and lived some 350 years after the flood.
The maximum human lifespan, as recorded in the Bible, tumbles rapidly after the death of Noah, the last of the antediluvian patriarchs. Moses, who it was reported last week was due to be the subject of a Steven Spielberg biopic, clocked up a mere 120 years.
