Volturi Smackdown in the Final 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2' Trailer

Volturi Smackdown in the Final 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2' Trailer

If you were looking to launch the final theatrical trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 in a setting that would capture the largest swath of the sequel's target demographic, you'd need to look no further than the MTV Video Music Awards.  The VMAs went down last night, and saw the debut of a new, apparently last, Twilight trailer.

This trailer focuses quite a bit on the plot of this movie, which adapts the second half of Stephenie Meyer's final novel in the phenomenally successful series of books.  That plots finds supporting player Irina mistakenly informing the vampiric Volturi that Bella and Edward's child, Renesmee, is an immortal child.  That would be a child turned into a vampire as opposed to a kid born into vampirism.  Since unstable immortal tykes are strictly verboten, the Volturi head to Forks to kill the kid, leaving the Cullens little time to assemble a defensive force of vampires and werewolves.

In addition to laying out the plot, the trailer shows off some action from the climax, including Edward swinging Bella bodily so that she can superkick a bad guy.  That's nothing when compared to now-vampiric Bella, wearing a nice little dress, Superman-tackling a mountain lion.  Believe it.

Obviously, the trailer is here courtesy of MTV.

Since both halves of Breaking Dawn were shot as one big production, director Bill Condon is the only director to handle more than one installment in this huge franchise.  Catherine Hardwicke kicked things off with the first film in 2008, only to be replaced by Chris Weitz on the sequel.  David Slade took over for the third movie, which featured action that looks very similar to the big stuff in this new movie.

Despite all those different directors, Melissa Rosenberg has served as screenwriter on all five movies.

And, of course, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner have all played Bella, Edward, and Jacob over all five films, turning them all into movie stars and making them dumptrucks full of cash in the process.  They're joined in this last movie by a vast ensemble cast that includes the likes of Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Lee Pace, Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, Dakota Fanning, Michael Shannon, Elizabeth Reaser, and Mackenzie Foy as Renesmee.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 gets all glittery in theaters on November 16th.
