barnesgonzo: Charlize Theron Opens Up About Being a Single Mom: "I Always Knew I Would Adopt"

Many were surprised when Charlize Theron adopted her son Jackson in March, but the 36-year-old South African actress she's always knew that she wanted to adopt a baby. She actually made a promise to herself 28 years ago when she wrote a personal letter to herself: "My mother found [it]. It said, 'Would you please take me to orphanage, so that I can go and adopt a baby?' I always knew I would adopt - always." Charlize was 8 years old then.

Charlize now graces the cover of the June 2012 issue of Australia's Madison magazine, where she also reveals that marriage never has been important to her: “It’s never been a fantasy of mine. Marriage has never been that important to me. I don’t know why exactly. Some might say it’s because my parents didn’t have a good marriage, but I don’t think so. I treat my relationships like marriages. The ceremony isn’t that important to me. But it’s a nice experience to be single.”
