Joran van der Sloot Handed 28-Year Jail Sentence

Bringing an end to the legal circus, Joran van der Sloot entered a guilty plea on Wednesday to charges of murdering Stephany Flores and was sentenced earlier today (January 13).

The Dutch troublemaker received 28 years in prison for his crimes and also had to pay around $74,000 in fines to the court.

During his court appearance on Wednesday, Joran told his three-judge panel, “I want to plead guilty. I truly am sorry for this act. I feel very bad.”

Van der Sloot is still the prime suspect in the murder of Natalee Holloway, an American girl who was murdered in Aruba in 2005.

Holloway’s mother’s attorney told press, "He's tortured, tormented and taunted [Natalee's mother] Beth Holloway for six-and-a-half years and toyed with her emotions nonstop about what fate fell to her daughter with absolutely no remorse, and now seeks to use that as a basis to mitigate his prison time for brutally murdering another young woman.”
